During the 3rd EWaS International Conference, one parallel technical woskhop will take place in Lefkada (June 2018).
More specifically, University of Thessaly is participating as project partner in the implementation of «WATenERgy CYCLE - Urban water full cycle: from its source to its end-users and back to the environment» a project by the European Union and National Funds of the participating countries.
WATenERgy CYCLE is a project that unites 8 partners and 2 associates from 5 countries in the Balkanmed area. WATenERgy CYCLE is a valuable & unique joint-tool for the design, preparation & implementation of an integrated multi-level approach in the urban (short term), rural & industrial (midterm) environment, promoting a Europe of worth living solidarity. A number of rational activities (networking, pilot actions, partner’s exchanges & meetings, training workshops) in the fields of innovation & environment are the main outputs. The demonstration of the joint innovative technologies & tools (developed & tested, 6 innovative joint implemented pilot actions) enhances the capitalization of the PPs’ experience. Through transnational strategy & policy recommendation, national & regional authorities, water & industrial operators, agricultural associations, & the general public benefit. The basic approach approach is a synergy of 3 EU MS & 2 IPA countries, due to common river basin management, WFD implementation strategy & climate change vulnerability, promoting a holistic approach, raising a number of shared technical challenges.
water is a precious social good; let’s treat it wisely
“every drop counts & its value exceeds by far its real cost”
The implementation of this technical workshop during the 3rd EWaS International Conference in Lefkada, establish a unique platform for transnational networking of stakeholders/experts (research, industry, policy makers, consumers, technology providers, water providers) sharing knowledge & experiences (know-how) regarding innovative technologies for WSS developments aiming at long term stability & security.
We are looking forward to welcoming you in Lefkada and share with you the methodologies, outputs and results of urban water full cycle: from its source to its end-users and back to the environment in the Balkanmed area.
The workshop program will be announced soon!
Dear all,
We are pleased to inform the participants for the opportunity to attend a short course during the 3rd EWaS Conference: This is a really exciting event, since the course will be based on the FREEWAT platform (as developed under the HORIZON 2020 project FREEWAT) and is conceived as a composite plugin for the well-known GIS open source desktop software, QGIS. The 6-hour short course is on "Free and open source tools for groundwater resources management" and will include a series of tutorials on "Open source and public domain GIS integrated modelling environment for the simulation of water quantity and quality in surface water and groundwater with an integrated water management and planning module". The course will be held the first day of the Conference in Wednesday 27th of June.
During the short course, the participants will be trained in using:
- Tools for the analysis, interpretation and visualization of hydrogeological and hydrochemical data and quality issues, also focusing on advanced time series analysis, embedded in akvaGIS module.
- Simulation of models related to the hydrological cycle and water resources management: flow models, transport models, crop growth models, management and optimization models (also related to irrigation management and rural issues)
- Tools to perform model calibration, sensitivity analysis and uncertainty quantifications.
- Additional tools for general GIS operations to prepare input data, and post-processing functionalities (module OAT – Observation and Analysis Tool).
Before we can confirm that the short course will take place, we would like to know how many people would be interested in attending. Please note that there will be a small fee of 40 euros. The registration fee will be paid on site.
If you are interested in attending the workshop, please reply to ewas3secretariat@uth.gr until 31/3.
